ACUPUNCTURE with IUI or IVF

 

Acupuncture has been shown in studies to improve the implantation rate as much as 16% and to improve on the rate of ongoing pregnancies by 15%.

 

There are 3 different phases of treatment when working with ART procedures. “Preparatory”, “Stimulation” and “Transfer/IUI”. You may begin at any point in these three phases.

 

Preparatory:

 

This phase of treatment can begin anywhere from 3 months to one week prior to a cycle. This time allows us to use acupuncture and herbs to balance and correct the body’s metabolism before a cycle begins. We work to improve egg quality, lower FSH and improve estrogen and progesteron levels as necessary.

 

Stimulation:

 

While you are in your stimulation phase we prefer to see patients twice a week if possible. This usually means getting in 3-4 treatments before retrieval or IUI. In the case of a retrieval we will attempt to schedule your last “Stim” treatment within 24 hours prior to retrieval. In this phase treatment focuses on increasing blood flow in the pelvis, Increasing ovarian response and helping to mitigate the side effects of stimulation.

 

Transfer/IUI:

 

This is the most crucial point in time for acupuncture and even if you have not been able to come in for a treatment prior to this phase you still benefit enormously from these treatments. The ideal is to be seen immediately prior to and after transfer or IUI.
